Rethinking circular

As an industry we’ve woken up we know that circularity is an important part of getting us out of this environmental mess we’ve created. That being said, circular business models are still in testing and very new. We research circular production and come up with viable solutions not just for the environment but for fashion too.

Why made in UK

Our sourcing is simple, we get second hand materials from textile waste warehouses, from there we clean and sort the materials to get ready for production. We source from a warehouse in Leicester and make everything in the UK keeping emissions down. We also believe in making in the UK and buying in the UK as it makes sense to support our economy, especially now. As we grow our UK based brand will allow for more employment opportunities for the UK, again helping the economy to develop as is much needed!

Our Story

Building Shoddy Threads has been a long process, originating from Niamh, the founder's, journey with fashion. She has always had a love for second-hand clothing and preservation. In 2019, during her second year of university studying fashion, her research led her to discover horrifying statistics about the industry she loves so much. She started to feel disillusioned with the huge amounts of clothing that were going to waste. She reached out to people in the textile waste industry to gain a deeper understanding of the issue. Mohammed Patel, who was working in a textile recycling warehouse at the time (now with the TRA), introduced Niamh to the warehouses, showing her first-hand what we are throwing out in the UK. Since then, Shoddy Threads has come to life through years of research in this field. We are still committed to researching this issue and finding ways to tackle waste. It's an uphill battle, but one we need to fight. Shoddy Threads officially launched at the end of 2023 with a small collection of upcycled garments. We have since grown, adding reworked pieces to our collections.
