Our Story
Welcome to the Shoddy Threads community. Find out how it started...

Hi there
This is me, Niamh... I'm the founder of Shoddy Threads

Here at Shoddy Threads, I do the designing, pattern making, sewing, marketing, sales, and much more so it's pretty full on.

The reason I started this company was from a love of creation. In particular when it comes to upcycling pieces.. I love seeing something go from an unused piece into something which I consider art. I pour my creativity and soul into every piece I make so I hope you love it.

Journey
2018
Just an idea...
The founder, Niamh delved into fashion whilst studying Fashion Design and Fashion Business at The University Of Hertfordshire. After educating herself on the impact of the environment on fashion she thought of the idea to start an upcycling business.
2019
Founding...
I reached out to lots of textile recycling companies, and fortunately received one reply from Mohammed from Savannah Rags who later put us in touch with The Pink Elephant in Leicester - where we sourced and manufactured our first collection.
2022
Business plan and sample creation...
We researched the market and developed a business plan and mapped out where our place would be in the industry. The sample creation process was very long as we had to figure out how to best utilise these second-hand materials.
June 2023
Production...
We spent a couple of months at The Pink Elephant developing the studio there and creating the collection. We hand selected the materials we wanted to use, sorted it, washed it and started deconstructing!
October 2023
Launch...
After preparing and shooting this first collection. We are finally at the launch and we are so happy to be sharing our story with you all. Head to our social media channels to keep up with the news.
Next STEP
Research in circular design
Our next step is implementing our newfound research in upcycling techniques and other circular design processes. We are working hard to continue creating beautiful pieces of art whilst looking for innovative ways to reduce textile waste
